A busy Park Lane saw a real 'game of two halves' with Southwell leading comfortably after a strong first half before Newark came back to dominate the second period and claw back to take the lead.

On one of only a handful of visits to the Newark half, a promising passage of play broke down and it seemed almost certain that Newark would hang on. In the final few mins, a brilliant 50:22 clearance from Southwell gave them an attacking line out and they continued to pile on the pressure as the clock went down.

As full time approached, a slight hesitation, almost shock, as a gap opened up which allowed a last gasp try by scrum half Ollie Richards. The whole team engulfed him and the crowd noise was heard across Southwell.

The conversion attempt bounced off the post and there was a slight pause as the ref doubled checked the scores and the clock before blowing up for full time.

The scenes of celebration erupted and after the 1s being on the end of 2 late defeats last season to Newark, it was a nice to be on the right side of one.
