Jo Wells and Beth James are Gascoines Volunteers of the Month for February!
Last Wednesday night the Womens and Girls training session was preceded by the
award ceremony for the Gascoines Volunteer of the Month for February which was
introduced by club President, Conrad Hunt. In his opening remarks Conrad said that
when James ‘Fridge’ Beaumont decided to try to start a Womens and Girls section of
the club we always knew that the biggest challenge would be finding suitable
coaches.
He went on to say that a number of names were bandied around, mostly male, but
then James stumbled upon Jo and Beth – how lucky were we? Both bring enormous
experience of both playing and coaching rugby and their passion for the game and,
in particular, to grow the womens and girls game has been evident from the
beginning and we are extremely fortunate to have them working with this newly
formed section.
Happily since the first training session in November the number of players has grown
and there have been times when over 25 women and girls have been taking part,
with the U14s age group looking particularly promising.
In concluding Conrad said
that for everything they have done so far to get the new section off the ground he
was delighted to announce that Jo and Beth were very deserved joint winners of the
Gascoines Volunteer of the Month Award for February.
Keep up the hard work ladies!
