Fiona Prentice is Gascoines Volunteer of the Month!

Amidst the showers last Saturday afternoon at the club’s Annual Community and Junior Awards day the opportunity was taken to highlight the contribution made by Fiona Prentice in her support for the Mini/Midi section.

In his opening remarks club president, Conrad Hunt, explained that Fiona started to help the club a few years ago as a Junior parent by becoming a team manager and, subsequently, took over responsibility for this duty for all of the sides from U6 – U12.

Fiona joined the General Committee in July 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic and in due course when rugby activities were able to resume she took over the additional responsibility for the organisation of the fixture lists for all of the U6 to U12 sides.

Conrad went on to remind the players and parents present that there was a tendency to forget that rugby clubs do not run themselves and a great deal of organizational activity goes on week-in-week-out, particularly in the Junior Section. And, at the end of another successful season for the younger age groups,

Fiona’s commitment to this essential work had made a huge contribution towards the smooth running of the club and it was only right and proper that this was recognized in the form of the Gascoines Volunteer of the Month award.

In a departure from tradition, Conrad then invited Fiona’s son, Oliver, to step up and present his Mum with the trophy and Luke Saywell representing Gascoines also presented her with a bouquet of summer flowers.
